ABOUT ME: Behind The Scenes

Monroe, an award winning director and choreographer is a proud member of Actors Equity Union and SSDC associate. Monroe holds a BFA in Musical Theatre/Speech.    Monroe started teaching at the age of 16 years old.  He directed and choreographed his first professional production of Oliver at the age of 21. Since then he has directed, designed, and/or choreographed over 100 musical productions including the national bus/truck tours of Sweet Charity, Footloose, The Whos Tommy, the inaugural production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as the first production in Zilka Hall at the Hobby Center For the Performing Arts in Houston Texas.  Some of his favorites he has directed/choreographed are Oliver, Bye Bye Birdie, and The Music Man at the Wortham Theatre.  Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty & The Beast, West Side Story, and Oliver at The Stafford Centre for the Performing Arts. 

He has choreographed for many colleges, universities, and schools around the greater Houston area and state including the Tommy Tune award winning Stratford High School's Stratford Playhouse (Once On This Island, Legally Blonde, Charlie Brown, The Wedding Singer, Chicago, & A Chorus Line).  Memorial Theatre (Annie Get Your Gun, Oklahoma, Beauty & The Beast, 42nd Street, and High School Musical).  Clements Theatre  (The Whos Tommy, Cabaret, Once Upon A Mattress, and Music Man) . Spring Woods Tiger Theatre (Seussical, The Addams Family, & The Producers). He has directed and/or choreographed for Fort Bend Theatre, Minerva Playhouse, Country Playhouse, South Arkansas Arts Centre, Lindenmere Theatre, Baco Theatre, HITS,  Lubbock Moonlight Productions, Casa Mana and many other theatres.  Monroe serves as the Performing Arts Department Head for performing arts camp on the East Coast. 

Monroe has served as a guest artist, judge, and/or adjudicator for Texas, Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio, Florida, and the National EDTA Thespian Conventions, He has taught master classes in Musical Theatre and Dance all over the United States.  His choreography can be seen at regional dance competitions including Dance Olympia's, Tremaine, and The Pulse.  He taught dance for 10 years at Suzanne Semans Dance Studio in addition to Allegro Academy of Dance, Barbara Kings Dance Studio, and DuFour Dance Studio. 

 

As a performer he has performed regionally with TUTS, HITS, Country Playhouse, Masquerade, Stratford Playhouse, Galveston Outdoor Theatre, Music Theatre of Wichita, and Gateway Playhouse.  Some of his favorite roles are Hawker in The Whos Tommy, Shantella in The Life, The Lead Player in Pippin, and Daddy in Sweet Charity. Mr. Moore currently has students in Broadway companies, national tours, working at Disney, cruise ships, and working in the television and movie industry. 

In addition to freelance directing and choreographing, Monroe serves as as one of the Entertainment Directors for Carnival Cruise Line, where he oversees scheduling, quality control, programming and all aspects regarding entertainment including productions, musicians, comedians, youth and sports staff, guest artists, special events, and more.
